Lose Weight through Motivation

Due to the problems of obesity and weight related issues in our society, a huge market has sprung up based around dieting and weight loss, this market is there because the demand is there, and the demand is there because people are desperate to lose weight.  There are countless gyms, weight loss classes, and exercise classes setting up in business every other week. There are new diets hitting the market every week with another one just around the corner. The market is awash with weight loss and slimming products, and it is expanding all the time. Trawl the internet and you will find thousands upon thousands of pages that contain information which tell you how to lose weight. There are numerous companies competing with one other to get you to buy their weight loss products.  Exercise and gym equipment can be purchased cheaply and easily, especially if you buy equipment which is second hand.  You will find information on weight loss in books, magazines, on television, and exercise dvds. We have the government and an endless line of health experts regularly telling us why and how we should lose weight. The question is why with so much information and sources available is the problem with weight gain not decreasing, the statistics show that the problem is not only increasing but increasing at an alarming rate. Many people try to lose weight with the best of intentions. However the majority never succeed in doing so. Try talking to someone who has repeatedly tried to lose weight, and that person will in all likelihood tell you that they have tried different methods but nothing has ever worked for them, and they get to the stage where they feel that they are not cut out to lose weight.  You will see endless adverts for weight loss products, many which make outrageous claims as for what their products will do for you. Some will claim that you can lose more than ten pounds a week or how their products will make weight loss easy for you. The truth of the matter is that losing weight is hard work and there is no getting around that fact. You will need to be committed and focused and it will take time, there is no magic product that is going to change that.  The fact remains that there is no product or person that will be able to guarantee that you will be able to lose weight. There is only one way of guaranteeing weight loss and that is if you are going to decide that you are going to do it. If you cannot be bothered or motivated to lose weight then it doesn’t matter what you try, ultimately you will fail. It will be your choices, your decisions, your actions that will dictate whether you lose weight or not. Many people believe that they have problems with losing weight, but this isn’t the case. Nobody really has a problem with losing weight; anyone can lose a certain amount of weight in the first few weeks of trying. The real problem is not losing weight; it is keeping the weight off. People are programmed into thinking that a diet or weight loss programme is something of a temporary nature. Their understanding is that once they reach their goal or come close to their goal they can stop and return to their previous lifestyle. What happens when you stop? The weight will begin to creep back and at some stage you will probably find yourself back to where you started. Then if you have the motivation you have to prepare yourself mentally and go through the process again and again, or you may just give up. When people are caught up in such a circle as this, they mistakenly start thinking that they are failing to lose weight. The fact is they are succeeding in losing weight and what they are failing to do it is to continue down the road they initially opted for. Weight loss and health should not be considered something that you do on a temporary basis. By losing weight you become healthier and to stay this way you need to pick a lifestyle that is going to complement what you have achieved. The one thing that is nearly always absent in diets, in exercise classes, in weight loss classes, and in exercise dvds, is are you in the right state of mind to succeed. To achieve anything you need to have a right mindset and focus. It is quite unbelievable that this issue is not addressed as it is probably the first and the most important step in any weight loss programme. The fact is that if you want to lose weight affectively you will need to train your mind to do it. You will need to be focused on what you want, why you want it, and what you are prepared to do to get it. Try to be determined and aggressive with these thoughts. Don’t just say I will TRY to lose weight, DECIDE that you will lose weight. When you say that you will try something it basically means that you will attempt to give it a go. If it works, then great, if it doesn’t, then never mind you did try. You are not going to lose weight in this way. When you make a decision to do something you are reaching a turning point, a decision is a powerful motivator, a decision sets a goal, and a decision is an order to be obeyed. Trying to do something is a feeble attempt at something that you don’t have belief in. deciding to do something is a commitment that you are geared towards.  To lose weight there are five things that will come into consideration. KNOWLEDGE is something you will need because it will give you an understanding of how things work. You will need to learn to a certain extent what types of food are good for you and what types of food are bad for you. You will need to learn about the quantity and the quality of the calories that reside in the food that you eat. You will need to learn what sort of exercises are going to help you to lose weight and what types of exercises you will be able to fit easily into your life.  PLANNING is an essential step towards your goal of losing weight. You need to plan what you are going to do, how you are going to do it, and when you are going to do it. Don’t keep this plan in your head write it down in a book. Plan what foods you will be eating, plan what exercises you will be doing and what days you will be doing them on, and plan what improvements you will be making on a weekly basis. It is important to keep a written record of all that you are doing because this will tell you where you began, how you are improving, and where you are going.  ACTION is a major key to get to where you want to be. You can have all the knowledge in the world and you can make plan after plan, but without action it is all meaningless. It is acting on your knowledge and plan that will get you the results that you desire. There will come a time for the talking to stop and there will come a time for you to start doing, and you must choose when that time starts.  PERSISTANCE is probably the most important step of all. Anybody can gain knowledge, anybody can make a plan, and most people are capable of taking some sort of action for a short time. Action on a short term basis will only get you short term results. Persistence is the key to long term success. Follow your plan day after day, week after week, and month after month. One day you will wake up and look in the mirror and realise that you have achieved what you set out to do. One thing to remember is that ninety nine percent of people, who achieve anything in life, do so through persistence and not talent.  SELF DISCIPLINE is the ability to force yourself to do something when you don’t feel like doing it. It is easy not to do something, but doing something what you don’t want to is the mark of commitment and dedication. Of course you will get days when you feel like you can’t be bothered. You will get days when you want to put things of. Don’t feel bad about this when it happens, every one gets days like this including most of the worlds top athletes. Accept your feelings when you get a day like that, but get up and do it anyway. Think of how much better you are going to feel after you have finished what you had to do. Also think of how proud you are going to feel about the willpower and the strength of mind that you used to do something that you wanted to avoid.  Accept the fact that it is going to take time to lose weight safely and effectively. Forget all the fad diets, the magic pills, and the useless exercise gadgets. You will just be wasting your money, your time, and your efforts. Do it properly and you will get proper results. Your first step is to find out where you are at this moment in time. Don’t focus on excuses and reasons about your current situation, be brutally honest with yourself. Then decide what changes you are going to start making and begin making them. Initially you will probably find it hard going, but like anything else in life the more you do of something the better you will get at it, and the better you get the easier it will become. Keep in mind the big picture. The picture of where you want to be in six or twelve month’s time. Think of how you will look and feel compared to how you look and feel today. When times get tough always remember the big picture. Never say ‘I can’t’ always say ‘I can’. If others can do it why can’t you? The thing with willpower is that it works a similar way to a muscle. The more you use it the stronger it will get. Eventually strong willpower will become a habit, something that you naturally possess and be able to use instantly.  Anybody can do the easy things in life; it is by doing the harder things that makes you stand out from the crowd. You have it in you to achieve whatever it is that you want to achieve. Keep doing what you know that you have to keep doing, and you cannot fail. The only time you will fail is when you give up. Take charge of your life and take charge of yourself, only you are able to do this and nobody else can do it for you. At the end of the day the choices you make will reflect the consequences that will appear in your life. It is just a question of how badly you want something, and only you will know that.
