Icepick scar represents one of the scars that are left behind by an acne that is not cared for appropriately.

Ice pick acne scars appearance are sharp and narrow scars.

It is generally deep and small in diameter and have steep sides causing the skin to appear like stabbed.

It can extend into the lower dermis or subcutaneous layer, make it too deep to cure with skin resurfacing procedures such as fillers, laser resurfacing or dermabrasion.

The suggested treatments for ice pick scars includes fillers, punch grafts, surgical excision, punch float method and other surgical removal as well as reparative procedures,

Ice Pick Acne Scar

- Filler Treatment

Ice pick scar filling was beneficial but it comprises of chemical substances. Hence it is not the safest method of getting rid of scars.

However, as progressive researches have been accomplished by scientists, acne scarring now can be cared for naturally by correct treatment.


- Laser Treatment

This treatment utilising laser as newest technology to heal acne scars. It is costly yet very efficient in treating the scars, including ice pick scars.

- Punch Excision Treatment


Used to surgically cure ice pick and deep scars, this method uses a punch biopsy tool.

It is a round, sharp “cookie-cutter” tool with the diameter around 1.5 - 3.5 mm according to the diameter of the scar.

After applying local anesthesia the punch tool excises the scar. The skin edges are stitched together. This will result in the fading of the scars.

If it is still obvious, resurfacing methods or the application of skin regenerating accelerators can be applied to clean the remaining scars.

There may as well be some acne skin care products to aid the removal of the acne scars.
