There’s nothing better than being warm and cozy inside your home with a good book or a favorite television show while it’s cold, dreary, and perhaps snowing outside. Winter is fast approaching and now is the time to transform your home into a cozy sanctuary from the storms. Here are a few tips for making your home cozier this winter.

Purchase an area rug

If your home décor feels like it’s missing something, it’s most likely a rug. A nice area rugs acts as a bottom layer to your home décor. In an open concept home, especially, an area rug can tie together the elements in one room to define it as a separate space than nearby areas. It also adds texture and pattern to a room that may be lacking. If you’re one of those people whose feet is always cold all winter long, you’ll appreciate walking across a warm rug rather than hardwood or tile floors.

Pillows and throws

One of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to add to the coziness factor of your home is to purchase a few inexpensive throws and pillows for your sofas, loveseats, and recliners. It’s another fun way to add textures, patterns, and colors to your home décor and a blanket is always in reach when you sit down to watch your favorite show or read a good book. Since throws and pillows are cheap, you can easily swap them out if your personal taste changes.

Find ways to incorporate books into your home décor in every room in your home so there’s always a book within reach. There’s something about curling up with a good book on rainy or snowy days that makes it even more enjoyable. It doesn’t have to be an elaborate floor-to-ceiling bookcase. Hang a floating shelf or use an end table and just place two or three books in every room.

Artwork always adds a nice personal touch and makes a home feel cozier. You can scatter art by a favorite artist throughout your home or you might even consider creating a gallery wall to showcase a single artist or a common theme. Just avoid winter landscapes if you’re going for a warm, cozy atmosphere.

Natural materials

There’s something psychological about organic materials that just makes us a little more relaxed. Opting for more woods, stones, and textiles in your home instead of plastics and metals will create a more natural environment and will be much cozier in the winter.

Baseboard heater covers

Though covering up those old baseboard radiators with shiny new covers won’t make your home any warmer, it will make you more excited every time you go to use them, and you’ll be using them a lot all through the winter.
