With spring coming, it is time to start thinking about what outdoor features you want to add to your yard this year. One really great and functional idea is to add a firepit to your yard. It can be almost as easy and snapping in your baseboard heater cover. Here are some steps to take to do it yourself.

1. Choose a location

Pick the spot in your yard you’d like to put the firepit. Try to keep your pit at least 10 feet from your house and fences. That way, you don’t have to worry about a fire. Also avoid putting it directly under tree branches that may accidentally catch fire.

2. Draw a circle for the hole

The next step you will want to do is draw a circle where you want the pit to go. You can do this by putting  a stake in the ground where you want the pit and then attaching a string to it that is 2 ½ feet long. Draw a circle where the edge of the string comes out from the steak around it.

3. Build the circle with stone

Take the stone you are going to use for the outside of the firepit and built it up a couple of feet around the circle you drew. Add some capstones to the top to give it a finished look.

4. Put a fire ring inside the pit

Get a fire ring and put it inside the pit in the stone to keep the fire maintained in one place.
