Seashells
In Australia there is a recycling initiative for restoring lost seashell reefs. This is possible with the help of local restaurants that donate their shells (left product of mussel and oyster meals). This is actually a great and by far the only alternative to the landfill - the place where seashell end up after serving their purpose.

Furniture is usually made of recyclable materials - wood, metal, textile. So instead of calling a rubbish removal service and sending the whole piece to the landfill you can separate the recyclable materials one from another and drop them off at the proper bins. Reuse is another good option. Old furniture can give a property a fancy vintage look. Some of the items could change their purpose and start a new live in another form.
Cooking Oil
Cooking oil could be recycled into many different products such as bio-fuel and cosmetics. As the quantity of oil used in a single household won't be enough for such a process, the way to do this is by finding a drop off point in your city where such products are accepted for recycling or get in touch with a restaurant, shop or other business that participate in such initiatives.
Crayons
The story about crayons is similar to the one about seashells. It will be hard to find a place where these are taken for recycling but they exist so we can keep one more thing out of the landfill.The process is simple - unused pieces of crayons are melt and used for making new ones.
